Union St CLT House

The Union St CLT house was designed by Austin Maynard Architects, with structural and civil engineering by Vistek. Located in Brunswick, it was built by CBD Contracting.

The Union St CLT house build maintains the existing brick façade but juxtaposes it with a modern glazed extension. Hidden behind the façade are extensive alterations and additions to the building behind. These were built out of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT), a highly versatile and sustainable mass timber material.

CLT was an apt choice for the site, not just for its attractive appearance. It was also simple to install in the relatively narrow space. Moreover, it caused minimal noise disruption to the neighbourhood.

The clients and project team have created a beautiful and inventive home using mass timber.
