This project was an $11 million new facility at BP’s Kwinana Refinery designed to house testing facilities. Vistek (in partnership with Best Consulting) provided all engineering services. This included a blast resistant structural system and specialist building services for the laboratory operations.
Key highlights:
- A structural system able to withstand the force of a vapour cloud explosion on the west wall. In addition, the design allowed for a column-free floor space by using a concealed roof truss system.
- $2.5m air handling system that includes fume protection cupboards and fume extraction. The laboratory also features a separate analyser workshop and a state of the art chemical store. Finally, the build also included an Australian Standard safety system including safety showers and fire and gas detection.
